I love this story and the nostalgia it brings back from my childhood of how Silent Night came to be.This film is a beautiful musical documentary on the origins of "Silent Night," the popular Christmas carol composed by Father Franz Gruber of Austria. It has a "Christmas" feel to it as the Vienna Boys Choir provides lovely vocals, finally singing onscreen the entire hymn. The documentary scenes telling the musical history of the hymn's composition are tastefully acted with authentic sets and scenery. This film has a definite sentimental feel to it, but not a grating or corny excess. It is relatively subtle and restrained, but also spiritually uplifting, eliciting peace and joy through its music and visuals. This film is the rare holiday documentary that will delight children as well as adults, failing to bore either, and is a true family film. It's definitely worth a purchase. It is a lovely story, but to me the telling of the story felt a bit disjointed. What I was happily surprised by was all the lovely alpine country scenery included. What I was most disappointed by was not seeing more of the Boys Choir. Overall, I do enjoy this product and am glad to add it to my collection. We love the carol Silent Night . The story was very surprising and very beautiful and heart warming. the Vienna Boys Choir was magnificent as always. It would be nice to have the boys sing a few more carol's at the end.Thank youFlorence JohnsonI have shown this video to a number of my students every year, and they love it! I think that it is best for grades 3-6. The brief concert and story about the Vienna Boys Choir is a little slower paced than current movies, but don't give up too soon. The story about soldiers on Christmas Eve is riveting. They love it, and they ask to see it again every year. I can't help but watch it myself.Beautiful film about the history of the best known and best loved of all Christmas Carols with details of the humble village priest and his school teacher friend who together hastily composed this holy song because of a damaged church organ and the possibility of a Midnight Mass with no music. great film footage of Austria , Germany and beyond,This is a great history of a wonderful song. We enjoyed this video and learned a lot.I had to replace my video tape and I love this story. I'm looking forward to watching it every December 18th which is my mom's birthday who has passed away, we always watched it together before Christmas. The Story of Silent Night [DVD] [1994] [US ImportThis is a nice DVD to share with others at Christmas.
