Although, I liked this book very much, the entire premise is somewhat faulty. This is the story of the, now grown up young adventurers from the first book in the series. The story relates multiple times, how well the heroine's family know her, including her love of adventure and exploring, yet the family is surprised she won't fall into the same boring mold as the somewhat "respectable" side of her family. And had you read the previous books in the series, you would understand, the entire respectable label, doesn't really fit the family. Her growing up period, has been spent being ushered from one boring event to the next, being expected to choose a husband to spend even more time being bored. She has been involved in a number of minor scandals, broken engagements and is banished to her step father's country estate often, as punishments. Meanwhile her best friend and comrade in arms, has spent his life, growing up in a foreign country, living his dream life, going from adventure to adventure, making sure to write to her frequently describing his exciting life. I was somewhat surprised she didn't hate him. Last Night's Scandal was a nice conclusion to the series, but I spent most of the book, feeling sorry for the heroine. I'm somewhat disappointed her family never made any effort to meet any of her needs. Although very wealthy, the family never provided a companion or allowed her to travel. The only decisions she was apparently allowed to make, was which boring man she could marry. The engagements were broken publicly, so the family could not force her to marry. But, she was punished for all broken engagements. One would think, if her family knew her so well, that forcing her into a boring marriage, would only cause more problems in the end.
