Product Description

This story tells of the beginning of a close bond of friendship between Henry and his new pet dog, Charley. On Charley's first night, Henry carries his new puppy in his old baby blanket, all the way to his house. He shows Charley every room, saying, "This is home, Charley." Henry's parents make it very clear where Charley will be in the kitchen. But when Charley starts crying in the middle of the night ... Henry simply can't leave his puppy down there by himself! With warmth, humour, and endearing simplicity, Amy Hest tells a tale familiar to everyone who has loved a puppy, while Helen Oxenbury renders each tender gesture and charming detail in a beauty of a book. Please ask if you need a specific version. This is a gem! Amy Hest should give seminars for authors of books for primary readers. This simple story is simply beautiful. The words are simple to understand and seem to be written by Henry Korn, the little guy who brings home an adorable dog. The illustrations by Helen Oxenbury are exquisite and add a perfect addition to these sensitive, and heartwarming words. This is the book I have been waiting for. A warm, honest look at the innocence of a little boy and his love for his dog.I will be using this one for K-2 grades all year. I can't wait for my next session to share this with teachers, parents and kids!
