Turning Point, "the British Weather Report," released two full lengths in the late 70s. Both releases are here in full, reissued in a double CD package.
Excellent jazz-rock fusion.vocalion recordings reissued the first two Turning Point releases on a two cd set. Creatures of the Night was recorded in '77 and Silent Promise in '78. Both cds are absolutely beautiful. Turning Point is a jazz/rock band that provides beautiful wordless vocals. Pipi Lemer has such a beautiful, angelic voice. all the musicians provide top flight performances. dave tidball's sax playing and brian miller's keyboard work is relaxed, yet very powerful. paul robinson's drumming and jeff clyne's bass playing provide a smooth rythmic balance. is one cd better than the other? that's a tough question. i enjoy Creatures of the Night a little more probably because i had it on vinyl and was familiar with the songs. but Silent Promise is a great surprise. if you are a fan of weather report, return forever, miles' silent way sessions, later soft machine, you'd probably really enjoy this package. i highly recommend purchasing this beautiful music. Some great British Jazz on offer here. I have the original Silent Promise on vinyl but never owned Creatures of the Night so this was a real bonus acquiring both recordings on CD! The recording quality is top notch I'm pleased to say. I personally love Pepi Lemer's melodic and somewhat haunting vocalisations as she unison's the melodies with other members of the band. There are some great compositions and playing on both these recordings.I was lucky enough to see the band live at the Bulls Head in Coventry many years ago with non-less than Allan Holdsworth guesting on guitar. Sat at a table just 10 foot in front of the band ... it was a memorable night indeed!Recommended for anyone with an interest in British contemporary Jazz from the late 70sTwo great albums - buy with confidence.
