I just can’t express how much I loved reading this book, well I actually listened to it (I better be more specific so I don’t upset those purists out there). I was never ready to finish it. The narrator (Carrington Macduffie) did such a wonderful job, and even though the book certainly didn’t need any help, she definitely made it sound so good and so real. I was immersed in the story since the beginning. The rhythm of the story is told from different perspectives and far from being confusing, it was engaging. I wasn’t dying to get to the next chapter in order to read from a particular charaster’s POV, as I find happens too often in this kind of book. You could say that the main character is Georgia or at least she and her daugther, but for me it wasn’t centered on any particular character. The story intertwined and braided each of the character’s lives together so well that it was just too easy for me to love each and every one of them. Each of these character’s flaws and back stories were a hundred percent believable to me, which of course contributed enormously to making this novel a very lovable and enjoyable one.For you to have a better picture of my experience while I was reading this book I’ll tell you that I picked this one up on a whim. It really was mere luck, for I wasn’t even looking for a novel to read. I was playing around with my husband’s new kindle and since I recently picked up knitting (by watching youtube videos) I thought that it may be a good idea to look for books about it, you know for real beginners. This sent me to a recommendation list and before I knew it I downloaded it from Overdrive, which actually only had the audiobook available. I thought it was perfect, I mean, it seemed like a cute book and this way I could listen to it while actually knitting. I didn’t know what a genious idea this was at the time. I felt like I was there, right there in that little store in New York sitting and knitting next to all these wonderful characters. Of course, I know this had to have influenced me a lot into liking it but before you turn away thinking that you have to have a certain knowlege of knitting or be a crazy old lonely woman to like it or to even understand it, you are wrong, SO wrong. After making my husband crazy (I couldn’t stop telling him how much I loved it) he decided to trust me and dowloaded the ebook. Believe it or not, he actually really enjoyed it, and let me tell you, he’s a self proclaimed book critic, so it certainly was a tough one to crack. He was very suprised and touched by something in particular that happened and just couldn’t stop thinking about it. So if you are already intrigued by this or simply want to know what made him feel this way, go read it! Really, if you like books that make you feel like all the characters are as real as you are, read this.If you like books that make you have that cozy warm feeling inside, read this. If you like books like “The Help” by Kathryn Stockett, read this. And last but not least, whether you like to knit or not, still, READ THIS!
