I absolutely loved this book.It tells of the life lived by a young woman and her friends in 1940sGreenwich Village while World War II was still in progress and themajor concern on everyone's mind. And it does so with beautifuldescriptive language that was such a pleasure to read.I personally lived in the Village while a young woman and felt the portrayal of the locale was spot on.But the book is more, much more, than a period piece about the 1940s or about Greenwich Village.Much of the the book deals with the thoughts and concerns universal to many youngwomen early in their first years of independence. This is not often done effectively in today's prose, especially with such beautiful languageand in such an entertaining fashion. While reading I often paused to reflect on incidents from my own younger life or to recall the innerthoughts I once had. Such pauses are definitely one sign of a book that speaks to the reader. For so many reasons I highly recommend this book.Gail L.
