At one time television was worth watching. Shows were clean and family geared. . . even if fell into the dark range like Night Gallery did. The story lines didn't involve anything pornographic or gruesome for shock value. They hinged on plot development and suspense to keep the viewers enthralled. I have a great deal of love (selectively) for the horror and speculative fiction genres, mainly because I work in them as a writer. Although my genre of choice is dark fantasy, I've been known to branch out. Night Gallery did likewise with tales from the master craftsman, H. P. Lovecraft and others more contemporary like Mr. Serling himself. What truly appeals to me as a fan of the show is that the production team put some class into an intelligent genre who's been kicked in the teeth one too many times due to those who have no concept of what quality, thoughtful dark fantasy and horror look like. If you like eerie, intelligent, and sometimes comical thought provoking scares, I highly recommend this series to you. Nothing to get grossed out over or hide from the kids or your pastor, for that matter. Rod Serling is the perfect host to introduce the paintings from which the stories are derived. His sharp eloquence not only adds depth to the storylines, it gives the viewers something to turn over in their minds. The acting is top notch. Legends like Roddy McDowell, Vincent Price, and Agnes Moorehead grace the screen. There's true acting ability in this classic series of fun frights. The show's atmosphere is sure to please. I'm sure you'll dig this classic.
