Caina Amalas was once a deadly Ghost nightfighter, a spy and agent of the Emperor of Nighmar. Now she only wishes to live quietly with her husband. But civil war grips the Empire, and Caina's skills are needed against the cruel sorcerers of the malevolent Umbarian Order. And Caina has a dangerous connection to the Umbarians. For Caina's mother had many secrets, secrets that might yet kill Caina herself...
The new Ghosts series is here. I've been reading these books since the first Ghosts book. Caina Amalas is my favorite guilty pleasure.Much of the action and the plot is similar to the previous books, but that doesn't matter to me. What matters is that the story remains as exciting and as fascinating as it has been from Day One. Now, though, we have a really big added dimension of watching Caina with her husband, Kylon (Shipbreaker, of House Kardamnos, blah, blah, blah), fighting together to keep the world safe for, oh, I don't know, ordinary folks without magical abilities, who are the target of those sorcerers, and others, who want to dispose of humanity, or enslave it to run their errands for them.I love reading every word of these books to get the full flavor of the world Mr. Moeller has created. I love that his heroine is a woman born without any particular magical abilities, and yet has brought down the most powerful creatures in this world. Her abilities have been conferred upon her as she has punched her way through this universe.I love Caina Amalas. She is emblematic of every little girl's secret dreams for herself, as soon as she learns that she is not magical, and that there truly are not any faeries, unicorns, or elves. (Of course, who am I to say? I once was that little girl, but maybe I was taught the wrong things.)If I could be anyone, anywhere in all of the imaginary worlds that have been created, I'd be Caina Amalas, and I will read her books as long as Mr. Moeller wants to write them.
