Its success as a home-listening experience, however, is diminished by the explosive vocal runs that the singer insists on tossing into every song, whether appropriate or not. Smartly programmed, the album offers a first disc that leans heavily on LaBelle's signature pieces ("New Attitude," "You Are My Friend") and a second that pays homage to Sam Cooke ("A Change Is Gonna Come"), Ashford and Simpson (a duet with O'Jay Eddie Levert on "Is It Still Good to You"), and the Cheryl Lynn disco classic "Got to Be Real" (with another guest, Mariah Carey).
