Recorded in Argentina on the System Has Failed tour circa 2005, live metal doesn't get much better than this. The setlist is perfect, the guitar playing is top notch by both Mustaine and Glen Drover, and the crowd is going absolutely bonkers throughout the entire performance. You've never heard an audience on a live album quite like this one before, and it just makes listening to the concert on disc that much more enjoyable. Every song on here sounds heavier, more intense, and just...better...than the original studio versions, especially the post-Rust in Peace material. The 4 songs from The System Has Failed sound ten times better here than on the studio album, and as a result, fit right in with the heavier stuff from the old days. If there is anything to nitpick about, I guess it would have to be Dave's vocals, which sound a little rougher than usual at times. Then again, singing has never been his strong suit anyway--it's his guitar playing and songwriting (and in this case, killer live performance) that we pay the price of admission for--so I can't really dock him any points there. Any minor blemishes on Live in Buenos Aires are quickly overshadowed by the intensity and fever pitch at which the performance is delivered. If you like thrash metal and you like live albums, this is a mandatory purchase. This is desert island material for me. I've probably listened to this from start to finish 100 times in the four years since it came out, and the shine still hasn't worn off. Five stars, hands down.
