A classic novel of man's future and fate, written by the eminent American physicist and award-winning author of Timescape.
This is a classic example of why each person is an individual (and also, ironically addresses one of Benford's themes in the novel). No two opinions about this book are the same. Where one person sees trash and poor writing, another sees a gem and extrapolative joi de vivre. I am in the latter camp obviously. This is a serious novel with some hard sf, but more than that it is an examination of a personality in a mature fashion. Yes, Yeti makes an appearance, but I don't think it detracts from the book but enhances the novel's surprises (I realize that this would be hokey in all but a few writers hands, but I think this is the case here. Benford is fully up to the task despite what some people think.)I still loved the novel (and I've read many science fiction novels and literary novels) and I think the french have it right-chacun ses gouts.
