This book is a classic for those of us who are drawn toward a contemplative prayer life. Since I am one of these people, I wanted to read this book simply because it is quoted so often that it has become one of the unofficial textbooks for contemplatives and spiritual directors. It is not an easy read even though this translation is very well done. It is not easy because it is "deep." For people who have a basic understanding of and have been exploring spirituality deeply, I would highly recommend this book. However for those people who have just begun spiritual exploration, I would suggest leaving this book for now and coming back to it later. There are many books that are more accessible and useful.
