A supernatural thriller that will keep you awake at night! The ultimate "haunted road" story!Jason Kelley is a young, struggling filmmaker looking for his first big break. When the semi-famous cable television ghost hunter Simon Rose approaches him about a freelance project, Jason is understandably thrilled. He isn’t fazed by the fact that his assignment is a walk down the Shaman’s Highway, an eleven-mile stretch of rural Ohio roadway that is reputed to be haunted by malevolent spirits, hellhounds, and demonic forces. Jason is an agnostic in regard to the supernatural. He isn’t prepared for the reality that awaits him on his walk through eleven miles of night—nor the more human violence and heartbreak that he will face along the way.
ELEVEN MILES OF NIGHT: A Novel, is the second book I have read by author, Edward Trimnell. Jason Kelly, a college student and aspiring filmmaker is battling some personal, emotional issues of his own when he is approached by Simon Rose. Simon is the head of a cable series involving ghost hunters. What he proposes is a walk through of an eleven mile stretch of road in rural Ohio, reported to be a host of paranormal phenomenon of all kinds. For a skeptic, it's quickly decided that this is easy money to be made."The Shaman's Highway is not simply haunted, . . . The Shaman's Highway is cursed . . . "The way Jason sees it, the one thing that Shaman's Highway had that could help sustain its reputation as being haunted, was its desolate atmosphere. With only a handful of farms dotting this strip, the simple lack of civilization--for someone raised in the city--is enough to suggest all manner of wild imaginings, especially during the evening hours.". . . Certain places were naturally spooky, either because of their history or their isolation . . ."The characterization focuses not just on Jason here, but on various other people whose lives he's destined to cross paths with this evening. We get to see both extremes of humanity--some of it ringing uncomfortably close to the truths we don't "want" to see in our own lives.". . . Hope must be a trap."At times, it's difficult to ascertain whether the greater threat comes from the paranormal sights on the Shaman's Highway, or from the human ones.". . . fellow human beings could still be plenty threatening . . . "The atmosphere is perfectly presented all throughout this tale, and the characters feel real the entire journey. Along with the job angle, the things Jason must confront along his way, cause him to question his own beliefs, motivations, and deep-rooted fears.". . . Did the dead resent the living? . . . "Incorporating many different otherworldly phenomena, this tale is full of action scenes, and serious questions that must be resolved before our main character can move forward. The external forces elicit an internal response that Jason never expected to have to contend with." . . . some places are both cursed and haunted . . . "Overall, there were a few aspects of the story I wish the author had focused on more, (and some I wish he'd shown even less of ), but in general it was an enjoyable, vivid trip to a land where the supernatural becomes the reality for a time.I'll be anxiously awaiting my next read from Edward Trimnell.Recommended!
